On February 8, at the JD LOGISTICS Shenyang North Station site near Huigong Square in Shenhe District, 60-year-old courier Liang Changgui wore an "Honorable Retirement" sash and held flowers, yet his heart was filled with reluctance. "When the photographer asked me to smile for the picture just now, I felt like crying. The thought of leaving JD LOGISTICS and my colleagues, whom I've spent every day with, makes me want to shed tears," said Liang, who had dedicated 13 years to his role as a courier. A special retirement ceremony organized by the company marked a perfect conclusion to his 13 years of steadfast service.
In August 2012, 47-year-old Liang joined JD LOGISTICS with hopes for a stable life, becoming one of only 20 couriers for the company in Shenyang at the time. Over the past 13 years, JD LOGISTICS sites in Shenyang have expanded from an initial 2 to more than 20. Liang himself evolved from a "newcomer" and "young courier" into the second-oldest "big brother" at his station, witnessing the rapid growth of the logistics and courier industry in the city.
Liang shared that he originally came from a rural area. Before becoming a courier, he and his wife ran a barbershop to make ends meet, after which he worked as an errand runner for a maternal and child products company. "At that time, I was no longer young and just wanted a stable, reliable job that offered social security and housing fund contributions. When I saw JD's recruitment notice, I came immediately," he recalled. This desire for stability kept him in the courier position for 13 years.
Throughout his career, Liang was responsible for delivery services in Shenyang’s Financial and Trade Development Zone. On average, he handled over 60 business-related pickups daily—mainly insurance policies and visa materials—along with more than 100 delivery tasks, keeping his schedule fully packed. His hard work translated into a solid income: a fixed monthly salary of over 7,000 yuan, which could exceed 10,000 yuan during peak seasons, representing a relatively high income level in Shenyang. He also valued the comprehensive benefits, including full social security and housing fund coverage, with monthly housing fund contributions totaling 2,000 yuan from both employer and employee sides.
Thirteen years of perseverance not only enabled Liang to achieve a significant improvement in his quality of life but also brought him enduring happiness. Liang mentioned that thanks to this stable job, he was able to purchase an apartment in downtown Shenyang. In retirement, with savings and a pension, he is financially secure and well-prepared for his later years.
Liang has already mapped out his retirement plans. While he is still in good health, he intends to travel to destinations such as Hainan and Yunnan, exploring the beautiful landscapes of the country, with a particular interest in visiting Hainan. When bidding farewell to several long-term clients, their reactions touched him deeply. "They were very surprised, never expecting that a courier could retire with a pension. They repeatedly expressed how much they would miss me," Liang said. This recognition from customers remains a precious memory from his 13 years of service.
