A sudden debris flow struck near the Shijia Gully Tunnel in Zhiwuhe Village, Gesala Township, Yanbian County, Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province, in the early hours of September 19.
In response to the disaster, the Geological Disaster Prevention and Management Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources activated a Level IV emergency response for geological hazards, while the Sichuan Provincial Geological Disaster Prevention and Control Headquarters initiated a Level III provincial emergency response.
The Sichuan Provincial Department of Natural Resources promptly coordinated with the natural resources authorities in Panzhihua City and Yanbian County, guiding swift emergency procedures and dispatching a team of specialists to the affected site.
Currently, local natural resources departments have mobilized stationed support teams, including seven vehicles, 30 technical professionals, and six sets of drones, who have arrived at the disaster area to conduct emergency surveys, monitoring, early warning, and hazard assessments. They are delineating danger zones, assisting with on-site personnel management, and providing technical support for rescue and relief operations.
