Lenovo Group has officially announced the completion of its acquisition of Phoenix Technologie's firmware technology business. The deal includes all related intellectual property, technical assets, and the core research and development team. Following this acquisition, Lenovo will fully internalize firmware R&D capabilities, building a self-controlled technological foundation for AI PCs, AI servers, and intelligent endpoint devices.

Phoenix Technologie is a long-established technology company within the PC industry with a significant history in the firmware field. Its technologies have been widely used by major global PC brands. The company has been a long-term provider of BIOS solutions for Lenovo's ThinkPad series, possessing mature engineering capabilities, a continuous innovation system, and deep collaborative resources with leading global chip manufacturers.

Firmware, as the underlying program that initiates and operates computing devices, handles critical functions such as hardware initialization, system wake-up, security verification, and operating system loading. It constitutes a vital foundational software layer for PCs, workstations, and servers. With the rapid evolution of AI endpoints, device forms are expanding from traditional PCs to AI PCs, edge terminals, intelligent workstations, and enterprise-level AI infrastructure, increasing the importance of underlying firmware.

Luca Rossi, President of Lenovo's Intelligent Devices Group, stated, "This transaction is a strategic move for Lenovo. In-house firmware development will strengthen our core engineering capabilities, allowing for better control over key computing layers. This will accelerate innovation, enhance security, deepen vertical integration, and achieve significant cost optimization. Phoenix Technologie has profound expertise in the firmware domain, and its unique technical capabilities will further enhance Lenovo's product portfolio."
