Shares of major Chinese financial institutions are maintaining their upward trajectory on the Hong Kong stock exchange, with all six state-owned commercial banks setting new historical highs during the week.

Bank of China, China Life Insurance, and GF Securities all advanced by more than 3%, while Agricultural Bank of China, ICBC, and China Construction Bank each gained over 2%. Additionally, CICC, CITIC Securities, and China Taiping recorded increases exceeding 2%.

On the fundamentals side, all six state-owned banks reported positive revenue growth for the first half of 2026. Agricultural Bank of China and China Construction Bank stood out with revenue expansion exceeding 10%, while Bank of China led the pack in net profit growth.

The net interest margins of these six banks have stabilized, with China Construction Bank and Bank of Communications both seeing their margins recover by 3 basis points compared to their 2025 annual reports. The primary driver behind this improvement is the reduction in deposit costs.

Performance in fee and commission income varies across the group. Postal Savings Bank achieved a notable 12.20% year-on-year increase, with wealth management emerging as a key avenue for growth in retail banking operations.
