In February, Gansu Province's electricity generation increased by 11.09% compared to the same period last year. On March 17, it was learned from the Gansu Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology that energy production in the province continued its steady growth trend last month, with total power generation reaching 20.448 billion kilowatt-hours. This robust growth provides a solid electricity foundation for the stable operation of the province's industrial economy.
By the end of February, the province's total installed power generation capacity reached 125.5981 gigawatts, marking a year-on-year increase of 24.01%. The optimization of the energy structure continues to show significant results. Hydropower capacity stood at 9.7199 gigawatts, up 0.04% year-on-year, accounting for 7.74% of the total installed capacity. Thermal power capacity reached 34.6410 gigawatts, a substantial increase of 33.75%, making up 27.58% of the total. Wind power capacity was 41.4160 gigawatts, growing by 25.70% and representing 32.98% of the total capacity. Solar power capacity amounted to 39.4932 gigawatts, rising 21.87% and accounting for 31.44% of the total. Biomass power capacity reached 0.328 gigawatts, increasing by 5.81% and constituting 0.26% of the total installed capacity.
Gansu is rich in wind and solar resources, with its technically exploitable potential for wind and solar energy ranking among the highest in the country. Data indicates that new energy sources like wind and solar power have become the core components of the province's power supply. This development injects strong momentum from Gansu into the national efforts for green, low-carbon transformation and ensuring a stable, secure energy supply.
