Guangshen Railway (00525) rose close to 4% in afternoon trading. At the time of writing, the stock was up 2.58%, trading at HK$2.39 with a turnover of HK$29.4526 million.

The increase follows reports of consistently rising passenger numbers on the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link since 2026. As of April, average daily passenger volume has exceeded 90,000, surpassing the 2025 average of 80,000, with daily ridership twice setting new records since the line's opening.

Furthermore, in the first quarter, the railway's partner, MTR Corporation, reported a 16% year-on-year increase in high-speed rail passenger volume. Between February and March, mainland tourist arrivals in Hong Kong grew by 53% and 16% year-on-year respectively.

Huatai Securities noted that Guangshen Railway's significant year-on-year net profit growth in Q1 was primarily driven by: a speed increase on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen intercity line, which attracted a substantial rise in passenger traffic; the addition of more cross-border high-speed rail services, fueled by demand for greater connectivity in the Greater Bay Area; and faster growth in freight forwarding volume, combined with the comprehensive impact of an increase in the 2025 network settlement service tariff.
