Apple is planning to grant external artificial intelligence assistants access to Siri, a move aimed at strengthening the iPhone's position as an AI platform. According to individuals familiar with the matter, Apple is preparing to implement this change as part of a comprehensive Siri upgrade in the upcoming iOS 27 operating system update. While Siri can already connect to ChatGPT through a partnership with OpenAI, Apple will now also permit integration with other competing products. These adjustments are part of Apple's effort to reverse its perceived lag in the artificial intelligence sector, where it has trailed behind its Silicon Valley counterparts. Revitalizing Siri, which was first introduced nearly 15 years ago, is a central component of this comeback strategy. A spokesperson for Apple declined to comment. The sources indicated that Apple is developing new tools to allow AI chatbot applications installed via the App Store to integrate with the Siri assistant. These individuals requested anonymity as the plans have not been publicly announced. These chatbots will also work in conjunction with an upcoming Siri application and other features within the Apple Intelligence platform.
