According to a report citing political and industry officials, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are in the final stages of reviewing investment plans for various regions in South Korea, with an announcement possible as early as this month.
The two chipmakers are likely to expand facility investments in the southwestern and central parts of the country.
The related investments may include packaging facilities, and there is also speculation about the potential construction of semiconductor wafer fabrication plants.
In a separate report, it is noted that Samsung is seeking to build an advanced packaging plant in Gwangju, South Jeolla Province.
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung is expected to meet with leaders of major conglomerates as early as the end of June to discuss regional investment plans.
