Recently, Duan Rui, wife of ALS patient and former JD.com Vice President Cai Lei, revealed his current condition, stating that Cai Lei has completely lost his ability to speak, and his arms, legs, and neck can no longer move. He can currently only consume liquid food. "If he passes away, I will truly be very lonely," she said.

On the evening of September 25, Cai Lei posted on social media: "I see everyone is very concerned about my current situation. Indeed, I am now paralyzed and unable to speak. Pain, drooling, choking, swallowing difficulties, and shortness of breath torment me daily. But I still have my eyes and ears. Please rest assured, I continue to lead my team every day, handling large volumes of work in research, operations, partnerships, human resources, and finance efficiently through eye-tracking technology."

Cai Lei stated: "I would rather fight ALS to the death than wait to die in humiliation facing this terminal illness." He also revealed that he recently announced over 50 million yuan in external research funding over the past 20 months, supporting hundreds of collaborative research projects. "Miracles have already happened - patients who were previously certain to die are now surviving, and miracles will continue to happen. This is an era when AI and life sciences are about to ignite!"

According to reports, Cai Lei's assistant Ms. Chen told reporters that Cai Lei's current condition is as described by his wife, and has persisted for several months, though his physical condition remains relatively stable. Cai Lei currently relies on eye-tracking devices for daily communication through typing, "He types quite fast, dozens of characters per minute." Ms. Chen noted that while Cai Lei's work intensity is lower than before, requiring rest breaks after working for one to two hours due to eye strain from typing and inability to sit for long periods, his thinking remains sharp. He frequently participates in research meetings online, and aside from rest periods, maintains normal work routines.
