CGN's First Integrated Nuclear-Solar Offshore PV Project Achieves Full Grid Connection

China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) announced on July 31 that its 200 MW offshore photovoltaic project in Ningde, Fujian Province, has achieved full-capacity grid connection and commenced power generation. As one of the first offshore solar projects in Fujian, it marks CGN's pilot venture into the "nuclear-solar co-location" model.

Located within the water area of the Ningde Nuclear Power Plant site in Beiwancun, Taimushan Town, Fuding City, the project leverages the existing sea area resources of the nuclear base to enable "nuclear-solar complementary" three-dimensional development. The site spans approximately 3,020 mu (about 201 hectares), with an installed capacity of 200 MW, and is equipped with a 20 MW/40 MWh energy storage system.

Over its 25-year operational life, the project is expected to supply an average of about 300 million kWh of electricity annually, equivalent to saving approximately 91,300 tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by roughly 198,000 tonnes. The supporting 220 kV transmission line, stretching 12 kilometers, serves as the key corridor for power export, featuring a 138-meter-high sea-crossing tower—the tallest of its kind in eastern Fujian.
