Xiaomi's automotive division has officially announced its new product line, the SkyNomad Xiaomi Pengcheng, positioning it as a smart, adaptable large-space SUV. The official Weibo account for the Xiaomi Pengcheng series has also been launched.
Xiaomi Group founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun stated in a social media post that while the SU7/YU7 series represents the "driver's car," the Pengcheng series is designed as the "smart variable large-space SUV." He described these as two distinct solutions developed over more than five years of vehicle development to meet different user needs.
Explaining the rationale behind creating the Pengcheng, Lei Jun noted that features like "refrigerator, TV, and large sofa" and configurations for six or seven seats have become commonplace, with ample supply in the market. However, an increasing number of car buyers are now looking beyond mere space and seat comfort, placing greater importance on whether they feel truly at ease inside the vehicle. The core question repeatedly asked during the project's planning phase in early 2023 was how to make a car genuinely comfortable. The answer, according to Lei Jun, is to define space through intelligence, creating a "living space." The interior should not be fixed but capable of adapting and changing seamlessly according to the user's needs and preferences.
Lei Jun mentioned that starting in early 2023, Xiaomi's auto unit developed an entirely new platform architecture from the ground up, named the Xiaomi Kunlun Architecture. Within an SUV form factor, this architecture, combined with a completely flat floor and long sliding rail design, endows the Pengcheng with the capability for intelligent spatial reconfiguration. He also revealed that the Pengcheng series is set to be launched soon.
