From January to July this year, spending by overseas visitors in China reached 263.6 billion yuan, marking a year-on-year increase of 27.8%, according to information released at the Ministry of Commerce's regular press conference on Thursday. The number of foreign tourists applying for departure tax rebates surged by more than threefold during the same period.
The momentum behind "Travel in China" and "Shop in China" continues to strengthen. Platform data reveals that among the top 20 source countries and regions for inbound tourism this summer, European nations accounted for 30% of the total, with order volumes climbing 275% year-on-year and ticket bookings growing by over 20 times.
Nationally renowned brands are gaining significant traction, with an increasing number of domestic labels and smart devices making their way onto foreign tourists' "must-buy" lists. Smart gadgets such as foldable phones, AI glasses, and smart wristbands have become the latest favorites among international visitors.
Service enhancements are also elevating the overall shopping experience. The streamlining of departure tax refund procedures has not only made the process more efficient but also substantially improved the experience for travelers.
