On the afternoon of April 27, Xiaohongshu hosted an AI Governance Open Day and released its "Xiaohongshu AI Governance Proposal." During the communication session, when asked whether the proliferation of false information would increase in the AI era and how the platform plans to address it, a representative from Xiaohongshu stated that with the widespread adoption of AI technology, the cost of creating fake content has indeed decreased. Objectively, AI-generated misinformation is expected to become more prevalent, and this trend is already observable. Regarding Xiaohongshu's strategy, the representative further explained that the significant challenge ahead lies in distinguishing between true and false information. Rumor management has always been a difficult issue for major platforms. Even before the popularization of AI tools, many rumors were hard to identify at low cost, particularly information with low discussion volume that falls between everyday rumors and news hotspots, which poses even greater difficulties for verification. This is a key area that Xiaohongshu aims to focus on in its future AI governance efforts. Currently, for widely discussed fake information related to hot topics, the platform has already developed certain identification capabilities.
