The yield on the 10-year UK gilt rose by 1 basis point to 4.85%. The pound sterling fell 0.3% against the US dollar to 1.3193, influenced by broad-based strength in the dollar.

Officials have indicated that Prime Minister Keir Starmer will make a statement regarding his future, potentially paving the way for a succession by Burnham.
