Samsung's "Price Shield": Exclusive Advantage May Keep Galaxy S26 Series Prices Stable

According to recent reports, Samsung may leverage its unique "vertically integrated structure" to avoid raising prices for the upcoming Galaxy S26 series smartphones. Korean media indicates that memory manufacturers like Samsung and SK Hynix have informed customers of plans to increase DRAM and NAND chip prices by up to 30% in Q4 2024, with average hikes expected between 5-15%. This adjustment exceeds earlier analyst forecasts and is set to drive up smartphone manufacturing costs, particularly for devices requiring higher memory and storage to support generative AI.

Unlike other smartphone brands, Samsung benefits from its vertically integrated model, allowing its mobile division (MX) to procure core components from its semiconductor unit (DS) at below-market rates. While competitors face supplier price hikes, Samsung can mitigate short-term cost pressures through internal coordination, maintaining the Galaxy S26 series' price competitiveness. However, this advantage may not last indefinitely. A semiconductor industry insider notes that as memory prices continue surging, Samsung will eventually adjust internal procurement costs to align with market trends.

Beyond memory, chip expenses pose another challenge. Estimates suggest Qualcomm's next-gen flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 could cost $280 per unit, significantly squeezing OEM margins. To counter this, Samsung is accelerating mass production of its in-house Exynos 2600 chip, built using its advanced 2nm GAA process, as a strategic hedge against Qualcomm's premium pricing.
