On September 20th, a vibrant agricultural specialty product exhibition took place in Xiangcheng County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. The diverse display of fresh highland fruits and vegetables, along with uniquely flavored processed foods, comprehensively showcased the rich natural resources of this western Sichuan city and the fruitful results of rural revitalization, attracting local residents and visitors from various regions to experience Xiangcheng's culinary charm.
Located on the vast and magnificent Kangba Plateau with elevations ranging from 2,560 to 5,336 meters, Xiangcheng County sits in the core area of China's Shangri-La ecological tourism zone. The region features distinct dry and wet seasons, with unique geographical and climatic conditions that have nurtured abundant agricultural and pastoral resources. Ten varieties of agricultural products including apples, blueberries, and matsutake mushrooms have received national organic certification, successfully establishing 11 geographical indication trademarks such as Xiangcheng apples, Xiangcheng matsutake, and Xiangcheng Tibetan pigs.
At the event venue, specialty agricultural products including apples, Tibetan pears, highland barley, and cordyceps were neatly arranged, displaying the bounty of Xiangcheng's land to visitors. The processed food section filled the air with enticing aromas, as wine, highland barley liquor, matsutake cookies, tree pepper sauce, and other food and beverage booths drew continuous crowds. These processed products not only preserve the nutritional value of raw materials but also extend shelf life, enabling Xiangcheng's specialty agricultural products to reach distant markets.
At the handicraft displays, exquisite bamboo weaving, wooden bowls, tsampa boxes, and other crafts attracted numerous tourists to pause and admire. The booth from Qingde Town featured a particularly eye-catching white Tibetan house model, showcasing Xiangcheng's unique architectural culture. Xiangcheng County is home to China's largest cluster of white Tibetan houses. These structures feature earth-and-timber construction with an overall trapezoidal shape and white exterior walls. The walls are built using appropriately moistened ordinary clay through rammed earth construction, with a typical lifespan of over a hundred years.
Blessed with the scenic beauty of Chacheng Valley, Ranwu Township's booth not only brought cooperative honey, apples, and other agricultural specialties, along with creative products like honey coffee and hats, but also promoted day trips and two-day hiking routes, offering rich and varied content. Agricultural, cultural, and tourism promotion officer Zeren Qupei expressed that this visit was not just about selling products, but also about conveying the concept of rural operations. They used their booth as a window for rural promotion and operations, hoping to help more people understand Ranwu's local culture and tourism situation, both driving residents toward shared prosperity and providing visitors with places to rest.
On the day of the event, over a thousand local residents and tourists came to make purchases, with active on-site trading and many leaving with full bags. Xu Jiaxin, a visitor from Xinjiang, said: "This is my first time visiting Xiangcheng for tourism. I didn't expect the agricultural products here to be so rich and diverse, especially the tree pepper, which I had never heard of before. I plan to buy more to bring back for family and friends to try."
In recent years, Xiangcheng County has actively promoted agricultural product brand building, focusing on developing regional public brands and successfully cultivating multiple food processing enterprises while certifying numerous specialty products. These measures have effectively enhanced the added value and market competitiveness of Xiangcheng's agricultural products, bringing tangible benefits to local farmers. Through building an integrated circulation system of "online + offline" and "production area + market," they have opened Jiande counterpart assistance agricultural product stores and Hangzhou "New Agricultural Capital" direct sales stores, establishing over 50 specialized sales points in large Zhejiang supermarkets, allowing Xiangcheng's agricultural products to reach markets nationwide.
This exhibition is one of the featured activities of the 2025 Great Shangri-La Loop · Xiangcheng White Irrigation Culture Week. This cultural week, held from September 20th to 21st under the theme "Meet at White Tibetan Houses, Charming Shambhala," closely follows the spirit of the Seventh Plenary Session of the Twelfth Sichuan Provincial Party Committee. Through an opening ceremony and seven featured activities, it presents visitors with a Shambhala panorama filled with ethnic customs and pastoral poetry.
