Sea Ltd's online retail arm, Shopee, is collaborating with Alphabet to develop an AI shopping assistant, aiming to maintain its lead over competitors like TikTok and Lazada in Southeast Asia. In a statement released on Thursday, the Singapore-based gaming and e-commerce company announced it is working with Alphabet to integrate artificial intelligence technology across its operations. This collaboration could lead to autonomous AI agents assisting Shopee users in finding, comparing, and purchasing products, while also making items on the Shopee platform more discoverable in searches conducted through Alphabet's Gemini. As the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia, Shopee joins other online retailers, including Amazon and Japan's Rakuten Group, which are racing to introduce AI-powered shopping services.
