When asked whether the United States would release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, Kevin Hassett, Director of the White House National Economic Council, stated, "There have been no discussions suggesting such a move will occur in the near term."

He added, "Given the significant successes achieved by our military, we anticipate that the factors causing concern in the oil market will soon become increasingly less relevant."

Note: Reports indicate the U.S. has downplayed the possibility of the Treasury Department trading crude oil futures, believing it would have limited substantive impact on the oil market.
