Well-known overseas strategy analyst Zhang Yidong, previously an executive committee member and chief economist at Haitong International, has confirmed his new career direction. He has officially joined Guotai Haitong, taking on roles as a member of the executive committee of Haitong International Securities, head of the equity research department, and chief economist. In these positions, he will oversee the equity research department and the equity sales and trading department. His new responsibilities will allow him to continue focusing on the overseas business he excels in, while reducing his involvement in mainland sell-side operations.

On December 31 last year, ahead of the arrival of 2026, Zhang Yidong announced his departure via his personal social media account. He stated that after a long period of careful consideration, driven by plans for the second half of his career and family considerations, he had formally submitted his resignation. He indicated his intention to transition into overseas business, concentrating on expansion within Hong Kong and other international capital markets.

Zhang Yidong holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in International Finance from Fudan University, as well as an EMBA from the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His previous roles include serving as Vice President of the Economic and Financial Research Institute at Industrial Securities, Deputy Director of the Research Institute, Global Chief Strategist, Deputy CEO of Industrial Securities (Hong Kong) Financial Holdings, and Vice President of Industrial Securities International. He also served as an adjunct external mentor for professional degree programs at the School of Economics of Fudan University.

To date, Zhang Yidong has worked at Industrial Securities for over 20 years, consistently ranking first in overseas strategy analysis. He secured the top position in the 2025 New Fortune ranking for overseas strategy and also ranked first in the Crystal Ball awards for overseas and overall strategy categories.
