Qingdao Port Launches New Direct West Coast U.S. Shipping Route, Adding 13 Foreign Trade Routes This Year

Deep News
May 20

On May 20, at the automated terminal of Shandong Ports' Qingdao Port, the 259-meter-long "Bin Chun" vessel commenced its maiden voyage operations. It is set to load 1,643 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of export cargo, including aluminum can body materials, towels, storage boxes, and plastic tableware, destined for direct shipment to major West Coast U.S. ports such as Los Angeles. This marks the official inauguration and commencement of regular operations for the new West Coast U.S. shipping route. This is the 13th foreign trade route and the second U.S. route launched by Qingdao Port this year.

It is understood that this route operates on a weekly schedule, with Qingdao Port serving as a fixed port of call. The service window is from 22:00 every Monday to 12:00 every Wednesday. The route offers point-to-point direct service, significantly reducing intermediate transshipment links. This further enhances Qingdao Port's trans-Pacific route network and improves its direct service capability to the U.S. West Coast. It provides hinterland import and export enterprises with more stable shipping space and more efficient logistics channels, maintaining a weekly average export volume of approximately 1,600 TEUs.

Since the beginning of this year, Qingdao Port has continued to accelerate the expansion of its shipping routes. The 13 newly added foreign trade routes cover key economic and trade regions including Southeast Asia, Africa, and the United States. The total number of foreign trade routes is now close to 240, connecting with over 700 ports in more than 180 countries and regions worldwide.
