Alibaba's Tmall Supermarket Launches in Hong Kong with Next-Day Delivery

Alibaba's Taobao Hong Kong platform has announced the launch of Tmall Supermarket in the Hong Kong market.

Consumers in Hong Kong can now enjoy the "Next-Day Delivery" service when shopping on Tmall Supermarket, with orders placed before 4 PM delivered the following day and orders after 4 PM delivered the day after, significantly reducing cross-border delivery times.

This move is one of the innovative services introduced by Taobao in Hong Kong during this year's 618 shopping festival and signifies Taobao's accelerated push into international markets.

According to Ding Zhencai, General Manager of Taobao Hong Kong, the initial product offering includes over 80,000 items, covering categories such as food and snacks, household and personal care, pet supplies, and maternal and infant products.

Plans are in place to increase the number of self-collection points in Hong Kong by 40% from the current approximately 1,200 by the end of the year, with the introduction of unmanned self-collection points and self-service pick-up models.

To celebrate this milestone, Taobao Hong Kong will launch a "Tmall Supermarket Mobile Experience Truck" tour across Hong Kong from June 5 to 18, bringing a supply chain of over 100,000 diverse products into local communities.

Additionally, the "HK Return" service for the apparel category on Taobao Hong Kong will be implemented in early June, allowing Hong Kong consumers to easily complete returns by booking a local courier station or requesting a home pick-up after the merchant confirms the return, without needing to ship items back to mainland China.

Ye Tian, General Manager of Alibaba's Tmall Taobao Overseas Business Unit, stated that over 200 markets globally can now purchase high-quality mainland products through Taobao.

In April last year, the Taobao app ranked first in downloads across 16 overseas markets, and through localized experience development efforts in various markets over recent years, the business scale of Taobao's overseas markets has achieved a doubling growth, demonstrating the continued and stable growth in global demand for innovative and unique products from mainland China via Taobao.
