Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY.US) is rolling out Anthropic's flagship Claude AI platform to over 30,000 employees, significantly expanding the application of artificial intelligence and AI agents across its research, clinical development, and corporate operations.

This collaboration represents a major evolution in Bristol-Myers Squibb's AI deployment strategy. The company is moving beyond the conversational tools that defined the first wave of enterprise AI applications, advancing towards agentic capabilities. These capabilities are being integrated into the daily workflows and systems that underpin its scientific research and global operations.

Furthermore, Bristol-Myers Squibb stated it is utilizing Anthropic's programming tool, Claude Code, to accelerate the development of its software and AI models. The company is also currently evaluating the application of Claude AI agents in areas including research, drug development, and commercial and medical affairs.

Eric Cawdler-Abrams, Head of Life Sciences at Anthropic, commented, "By providing employees with access to Claude's agentic capabilities connected to thousands of internal data sources, Bristol-Myers Squibb is building a unified intelligence layer. This layer can generate clinical study reports from underlying trial data, extract the correct scientific context from decades of internal research, or trace the root cause of production deviations in real-time."

Anthropic's competitor, OpenAI, has also secured partnerships with key industry leaders. In 2024, OpenAI announced an agreement with biotechnology giant Moderna to automate business processes and earlier this year entered a deal with Wegovy manufacturer Novo Nordisk to accelerate drug discovery.
