On August 29, 2026, following the issuance of dispatch instructions, the Bai Sha Energy Storage Station, a 100MW/200MWh grid-forming energy storage project by Songyuan City Energy Group located in Longfeng Village, Changling Town, Changling County, was successfully connected to the grid in a single operation.
As the first large-scale grid-forming energy storage station in Jilin Province and a key provincial demonstration project for 2024, this modern facility, with a total investment of 265 million yuan and covering an area of 23,000 square meters, has officially entered service. This milestone marks a solid step forward for Jilin Province in building a new type of power system.
Inside the Bai Sha Energy Storage Station, 20 energy storage units of 5MW/10MWh are neatly arranged. The project is equipped with one 120MVA main transformer, connected to the Longfeng 500kV substation via a dedicated 220kV line. Since construction began on September 6, 2025, the project has adhered to the "Four Quick" work principle of quick decision-making, quick construction, quick commissioning, and quick efficiency, fully compressing the construction timeline.
The grid-forming technology is the standout feature of the project. According to Chen Hongbai, Assistant to the Chairman of Songyuan City Energy Development Group Co., Ltd., the grid-forming converter possesses voltage source characteristics, enabling it to independently establish voltage without relying on the grid. It provides critical functions such as inertia support, fast frequency regulation, and black start capability. The system can operate continuously for 1 minute at 150% rated current and for 10 seconds at 300% rated current, effectively enhancing the stability of weak grids. The system's control strategy allows for seamless switching between grid-following and grid-forming modes.
All core equipment is sourced from top-tier domestic brands, including CATL battery cells and Sungrow Power PCS. "This system is highly grid-friendly and represents a key technological support for Jilin Province's efforts to build a new type of power system and promote green energy transformation," Chen Hongbai stated.
Once operational, the station is expected to reduce renewable energy curtailment by approximately 60 million kWh annually, precisely supporting grid peak shaving and frequency regulation while improving system regulation efficiency. The project will significantly enhance the utilization of new energy, further strengthen grid peak shaving, frequency regulation, and black start capabilities, and comprehensively improve power system stability and renewable energy consumption levels.
The successful grid connection effectively improves the regional grid's peak shaving and frequency regulation system, optimizes the energy supply-demand structure, and continuously drives the transformation and upgrading of the new energy industry in Songyuan and across the province. It provides important demonstrative support for Jilin Province's efforts to build a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient modern energy system.
