On the evening of October 17, the first performance of G.E.M.'s 2025 World Tour concert at the Dong'an Lake Sports Park in Chengdu took place, and many citizens noticed a significant improvement in traffic flow from the main urban area to Dong'an Lake. Behind this is a series of measures taken by Chengdu Public Transport to facilitate access to the concert.
According to Chengdu Public Transport Group, several initiatives have been implemented to ensure smooth transportation for large-scale events at Dong'an Lake, including upgrading BRT platforms, offering exclusive bus lines, optimizing post-event transfers, and enhancing traffic organization on-site. These efforts are aimed at ensuring orderly crowd dispersal during the concert and providing citizens with more convenient and efficient travel services.
A dedicated bus line, the "Dong'an Lake Activity Special Line," has been established, starting from the Exit B of the YIng Hui Road subway station and covering 12 kilometers without detours, reaching Dong'an Lake Sports Park in just 15 minutes, which is about 13 minutes faster than regular buses due to the use of bus-only lanes. The special line runs from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on concert days, with frequency adjusted in real-time according to passenger flow to ensure timely arrivals.
In addition to this special line, Buses K6 and K7 also service the Dong'an Lake Sports Park, providing citizens with more transport options. To prevent congestion caused by the gathering of special line vehicles, temporary pick-up and drop-off zones have been set up at Ying Hui Road station and Dong'an Lake Sports Park station, with personnel assigned to guide vehicles for immediate departure, reducing interference with traffic on nearby main roads.
The BRT platform has undergone a comprehensive upgrade, expanding the waiting area by 30% to accommodate large crowds expected during the concert. The platform length was increased from 30 meters to 69 meters, allowing for three 12-meter buses to dock simultaneously, which significantly enhances the efficiency of passenger dispersal during peak times. The width of the waiting area has also increased from 4.15 meters to 5.4 meters, accommodating approximately 210 passengers and improving the waiting environment by reducing congestion.
Moreover, in collaboration with traffic management departments, the public transport group has optimized the vehicle flow in and out of the BRT platform area, installing temporary barriers to guide passengers orderly boarding and alighting, thereby avoiding roadway congestion caused by improperly parked vehicles.
To address the return journey of citizens after the event, Chengdu Public Transport will operate a dedicated subway shuttle line from the end of the concert until 11:00 PM. Passengers can walk to the Dong'an Lake BRT station to board the shuttle, which will provide efficient dispersal with three buses dispatched simultaneously and departing once full. Capacity will also be flexibly adjusted in real time in response to passenger flow changes.
