A recent visit to the wood chip processing facility in Mashantoucun, Shunhe Town, Suzhou's Yongqiao District, revealed a scene of bustling activity. Workers skillfully operated machinery to feed discarded wood materials like tree roots and branches into shredding equipment. Within seconds, the once-disorganized waste was processed into uniform wood chips, efficiently loaded onto trucks via conveyor belts.

This operation exemplifies Shunhe Town's successful efforts to repurpose wood processing waste, achieving a dual win for ecological management and industrial income growth. As a provincial-level cluster for board manufacturing, the panel industry is a local pillar. Historically, waste materials such as roots, branches, and offcuts from this industry posed a significant disposal challenge due to a lack of effective utilization channels.

Previously, large quantities of this waste were either burned on-site, polluting the rural air, or left in disorderly piles to rot naturally. This practice not only occupied land, bred pests, and marred the village landscape but also represented a major waste of resources, forming a persistent difficulty in rural environmental improvement.

Leveraging its concentrated panel industry and aligning with green, low-carbon development trends, Shunhe Town has focused on unlocking the value of this wood waste. The town is driving the industry's transformation and upgrading while refining a circular wood economy chain. Building on the existing industrial base, it has cultivated and attracted several deep-processing enterprises for waste materials, establishing a complete "recycle-crush-reuse" system.

Currently, the town hosts nearly ten specialized wood chip processing companies, with a stable daily production capacity reaching 50 tons. The processed, high-quality wood chips are in high demand, primarily supplied to three local medium- and high-density panel manufacturers and two biomass pellet fuel producers. This waste has become a premium raw material for high-end board manufacturing and green energy production, fully revitalizing a previously discarded resource.

What was once an unwanted environmental burden has now become a sought-after "green raw material" that boosts income. This resource utilization not only resolves environmental issues like pollution and haphazard dumping but also significantly improves the rural living environment and opens up new revenue streams. It is reported that deeply processed wood chip material can generate an additional 300 to 500 yuan per ton, truly turning waste into wealth and injecting new vitality into the town's economic development.

The circular development of the industry empowers rural revitalization. Moving forward, Shunhe Town plans to continue deepening its commitment to the green circular economy. It will further refine the wood industry chain, enhance its value, and optimize the integrated system for waste recycling, processing, and utilization.
