这一长期行业规范的逆转，可能会推高美国航空业所依赖的Jet A燃油的需求，并可能带动其价格上涨。当前，欧洲的航空公司与机场正发出警告：如果油轮进入霍尔木兹海峡的通道不能迅速恢复，今年夏季可能面临大范围的燃油短缺。
在伊朗战争爆发前，欧洲约四分之一的航空燃油来自海湾地区的炼油商。与此同时，原油出口的崩溃使得亚洲炼油商几乎没有其他替代选择。这已将燃油价格推至历史高位，并迫使航空公司承担了数十亿美元的额外成本。
非美国标准的Jet A-1燃油，其最高凝固点为摄氏零下47度，而Jet A燃油则在零下40度时凝固。行业组织国际航空运输协会表示，在极北航线以外的航路上，这种差异不会构成任何风险。由于这两种燃油需要分开储存和运输，因此这一政策转变也将带来一些物流上的调整。
