U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum will press leaders of major American oil and gas companies to increase drilling operations during a call on Thursday, according to three individuals with direct knowledge of the conversation. The aim is to lower fuel prices.
Two of the sources indicated that the White House has invited the chief executive officers of ExxonMobil, Chevron, Occidental Petroleum, Continental Resources, and other major petroleum firms to participate in the Thursday call. The individuals requested anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to the media.
Company representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The White House and the Department of Energy also did not respond immediately, while the Interior Department declined to provide specific details.
