On the evening of July 28, U.S. time, a sudden IT system glitch forced a brief nationwide ground stop for American Airlines flights. The technical issue has now been resolved, and flight departures and arrivals have returned to normal operations.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that due to an internal IT system outage at American Airlines, the aviation authority issued a "ground stop" order for all of the carrier's flights that had not yet departed. This order lasted approximately 45 minutes.
American Airlines later confirmed the situation in a statement. The carrier emphasized that a brief technical failure in system connectivity led to the temporary ground stop, taken to allow teams to focus on identifying and resolving the problem. All system network connections have now been fully restored, and flights have resumed operations.
The company apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers and reiterated its commitment to ensuring a smooth travel experience for its customers.
