DingTalk CEO Allegedly Conducts Midnight Office Checks, Reports Suggest Management Restructuring Targeting Anti-Overtime Executives

On August 20, internet blogger "Internet World" reported that DingTalk plans to restructure several senior executives who do not advocate for overtime work.

The blogger claimed to have reliable sources indicating that DingTalk CEO Wu Zhao has already assigned tasks involving 4 P10-level executives and 15 P8-level and above employees, with plans to marginalize or optimize them within three months.

Notably, this follows recent reports that last week during the early morning hours between midnight and 12:30 AM, DingTalk CEO "Wu Zhao" conducted a patrol of the office area and found very few people at their workstations.

The next day, he allegedly criticized all departments, questioning why everyone had left work early.

When netizens inquired about the authenticity of these reports on social media platforms, multiple users with IP addresses located in Zhejiang confirmed the situation was true.

Some netizens even pointed out that it wasn't midnight, but 1:30 AM, and referred to him using a derogatory term. (Wu Zhao lived and worked in Japan for approximately 9 years after his first departure from Alibaba)

Latest updates show that when contacted by media outlets, DingTalk office software staff responded that "the story is false, at least we haven't encountered such situations ourselves, and the CEO also needs to sleep at night."

In March this year, it was reported that Alibaba planned to acquire investor shares in the company "Two Hydrogen One Oxygen" founded by original DingTalk founder Chen Hang (alias: Wu Zhao), with Wu Zhao returning to DingTalk as CEO and officially rejoining Alibaba.

Since Wu Zhao's return, multiple netizens have reported on social media platforms that the new CEO has begun strictly monitoring attendance.

Individuals claiming to be DingTalk employees revealed that when Wu Zhao personally inspected work areas, he discovered some team leaders were not at their workstations, with some still resting after 1:30 PM, prompting him to take swift action.

According to the reports, DingTalk has clearly required employees to start work at 9 AM and organize morning meetings, conduct evening work summaries, aimed at maintaining the team's rapid response capabilities. Regarding disciplinary measures, employees must enter work mode after 13:15 during lunch break, and are prohibited from using mobile phones to browse WeChat, Weibo, Xiaohongshu and other social platforms during work hours.

Currently, DingTalk has not responded to the employee optimization reports.

However, it has been observed that ByteDance HR personnel are already recruiting under DingTalk's midnight patrol topic, claiming to have recently hired two former DingTalk colleagues.
