Anthropic Eyes New AI Model Launch Ahead of Market Debut, Challenging OpenAI's Corporate Push

Reports indicate that Anthropic is preparing to introduce a new artificial intelligence model prior to its much-anticipated initial public offering, aiming to counter the recent strides OpenAI has made in the enterprise AI space. This development follows the unveiling of the GPT-6 Astra model by OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.

Just days ago, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei joined other tech leaders in urging a slowdown in AI development. In a 3,800-word essay published last Saturday, Amodei asserted, "We must decelerate the pace at which we enhance AI model capabilities." His stance has drawn backing from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Anthropic is currently assessing the safety of its next model while simultaneously advancing its launch timeline. Another topic under deliberation is how to strike a balance between rolling out the new model and boosting the company's profitability. As interest rates climb, investors are increasingly focused on the timeline for realizing projected earnings.

Latest data from corporate spending platform Ramp reveals that GPT-6 Astra, released earlier this month, has already captured approximately 13% of enterprise AI expenditure, whereas Anthropic's Claude Fable accounts for roughly 8%. Meta Platforms has consistently ranked among Anthropic's key clientele. However, insiders disclose that the social media giant is seeking to reduce its reliance on Anthropic's models, pivoting instead toward bolstering its in-house AI development capabilities.

Media reports from last Friday suggest that Anthropic is weighing a blockbuster IPO launch in November, a timeline that reflects a delay from earlier expectations. This postponement comes against a backdrop of mounting calls within the AI industry to moderate the speed of model development.

It has also been reported that Anthropic's revenue is expanding at a rapid clip: annualized revenue surged to $65 billion in July, with backers projecting it will exceed $120 billion by year-end, positioning the company to rank among the fastest-growing enterprises in history. Some investors familiar with Anthropic indicate that the company's current valuation stands at approximately $965 billion, and its post-listing trading valuation could range anywhere from $1.5 trillion to $4 trillion—a spread of about $2.5 trillion, roughly equivalent to the market capitalization of Amazon.
