On May 12, the topic "#WeChat Status Visitor Record#" trended on Weibo, following reports that WeChat Status was testing two features in a very limited scope. One feature displayed the number of views on a status post, showing the view count in the bottom-right corner during the status's active period.

In response to the discussion, Tencent's customer service and WeChat's PR director, Zhang Jun, clarified that the testing has been halted. The WeChat team acknowledged conducting a small-scale test of the status view count display but stated that, due to widespread misunderstanding and controversy, the test has been completely discontinued.

Furthermore, Zhang Jun emphasized that the company has repeatedly stated it has no intention of introducing read receipts or visitor log features. He reiterated this point clearly: these two features are firmly off the table, with no plans for development or provision.
