On the first day of China's National Day holiday, latest booking data from Tuniu travel platform reveals that user travel volume increased by nearly 10% compared to the same period last year. Self-driving tours and independent travel showed particularly significant growth in user participation.

This year's National Day coincides with the Mid-Autumn Festival, creating a merged holiday period that exhibits distinct dual peaks for both vacation and family visit travel. The "take 3 days off, get 12 days total" staggered travel pattern has proven popular among tourists, with nearly 20% of Tuniu users choosing to begin their journeys before the official holiday start date of October 1st.

Since September 27th, travel volume has been climbing steadily, reaching this year's National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival travel peak on the first day of the holiday. Among Tuniu's domestic packaged travel products, self-driving tour participation on the holiday's first day increased by more than three times compared to the previous day, while group tours and independent travel also saw more than double the participation rates.

Domestic travel showed particularly notable growth, with first-day holiday travel volume increasing by over 130% compared to the previous day.

Among popular destinations, Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Xi'an, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Qingdao, and Sanya emerged as the most favored travel directions for Tuniu users on the holiday's first day.

For outbound travel, Japan, Maldives, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, United Arab Emirates, Spain, and Portugal ranked among the top destination preferences on the first day of the holiday.

According to Tuniu representatives, this year's National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival travel peak is expected to continue through October 5th. Starting October 6th, with the arrival of Mid-Autumn Festival, the travel market will gradually shift toward return journey and family visit travel peaks.
