Movement Alert|Datang International Power Rises 5.08% in Regular Trading, Power Sector Rallies on Record Demand and Oversold Rebound

Market Focus
Jul 20

On July 20, Datang International Power Generation rose 5.08% in regular trading, trading at HKD 2.47/share, with turnover of HKD 82.88 million.

The rally was driven by broad-based strength across the power sector. Peers including Huaneng Power gained 3.8%, China Resources Power rose 3.58%, CGN Power added 2.93%, and China Power climbed 2.55%, with Datang leading the sector advance.

On the fundamental side, the National Energy Administration recently reported that national electricity consumption rose 5.3% year-on-year in the first half of the year. On July 10, national power load hit a record high of 1.518 billion kilowatts, surpassing the previous peak. Peak summer demand, combined with growing loads from new energy vehicles and data centers, has reinforced a tight supply-demand outlook for the sector.

Additionally, the stock's A-shares had declined over 40% from a high of RMB 9.92 in early June to RMB 5.80 on July 17, suggesting technical oversold recovery demand was also a contributing factor.
