A case submitted by Sichuan Changhong Air Conditioning Co., Ltd., under Changhong Holding Group, titled "Application of a 5G-Based New Industrial Network for Full-Link Data Collaboration in Smart Factories," has been selected as a typical case in the mobile IoT category.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has recently announced the list of exemplary cases for the coordinated development of new information infrastructure for 2025. New information infrastructure refers to a system built on information networks and driven by innovations in next-generation information and communication technologies. It provides foundational digital public services—such as sensing, transmission, storage, and computing—to support the digital transformation of the economy and society. This system primarily includes network infrastructure like 5G and satellite internet, computing infrastructure such as data centers and intelligent computing centers, and new technology facilities involving artificial intelligence, blockchain, and quantum computing.
In November 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology initiated a concentrated effort to collect exemplary cases. These cases are categorized into five main directions: "signal enhancement," shared construction of telecommunications infrastructure, intelligent upgrades to network infrastructure, mobile Internet of Things (IoT), and computing infrastructure. The case from Sichuan falls under the "industrial empowerment and efficiency improvement" sub-direction within mobile IoT. It represents a typical example of optimizing production processes, enhancing industrial competitiveness, and achieving cost reduction and efficiency gains in areas like smart factories.
"Previously, the air conditioning production plant faced challenges such as high latency in traditional wireless and wired networks, frequent disconnections of automated guided vehicles, and complex wiring dependencies for equipment data collection," explained a relevant official from Sichuan Changhong Air Conditioning Co., Ltd. To address these issues, the company collaborated with China Mobile to establish a 5G industrial private network covering the entire factory. The focus has been on advancing three core application scenarios: "5G+" smart logistics, equipment interconnection, and AI quality inspection, thereby creating a digital foundation for intelligent factory operations.
For instance, path-planning algorithms are used to coordinate multiple automated guided vehicles, with ultra-low latency ensuring real-time dispatch commands and laser navigation achieving millimeter-level precision. By connecting all key factory equipment through a dedicated platform, control command latency and edge computing latency have been reduced to within 10 milliseconds, shifting equipment health management from "post-failure emergency repair" to "pre-failure warning." Additionally, by transmitting high-definition images of critical points like solder joints in real-time and utilizing AI models to accurately identify issues such as cold solder joints or missed soldering, overall production efficiency has been increased by 50%, and the rate of sporadic non-conformities has been reduced by 39%.
