The dollar index fell as much as 0.5% in spot trading after the U.S. Treasury Department announced plans to step up purchases of longer-term government debt.
All G10 currencies strengthened against the greenback, with the yen leading the charge, surging as much as 0.9% to 158.17 per dollar.
