Airbnb, Inc. CEO Brian Chesky has expressed confidence that the company can withstand the potential existential threat that artificial intelligence poses to online travel agencies. Chesky told analysts that he views AI chatbots as a tool for consumers to discover Airbnb, similar to how they use Google when planning trips. He added that the inventory and data Airbnb collects through its host application would be difficult for AI models to replicate or compete with. Chesky stated that even if AI companies begin to enter this space, he believes Airbnb is capable of developing a competitive AI model. "We don't have to live in a world where someone else has to lose," he remarked. "I think we will be able to collaborate, and these companies will be very helpful." Following these comments, the company's stock rose 5.2% in after-hours trading to $122.
