Shanghai Stairway Medical Technology Co., Ltd. (referred to as Stairway Medical) announced that its self-developed minimally invasive implantable brain-computer interface technology has enabled several high-level quadriplegic patients to successfully engage in roles such as e-commerce logistics coordination and vending machine backend labeling. This marks a major breakthrough in the clinical application of brain-computer interface technology, transitioning from the laboratory to daily life.

In Stairway Medical's implantable brain-computer interface clinical trials, a coin-sized implant system allows patients to smoothly control a computer cursor using their thoughts, performing everyday tasks like watching videos, gaming, ordering food delivery, and online shopping. After training, multiple patients have become proficient in full-time jobs, independently handling e-commerce logistics backend work, including communicating with customers, confirming orders, and ensuring timely delivery of goods. They also participate in vending machine backend services by watching videos to identify and annotate customer purchase behaviors, operating with high efficiency and smoothness.

The company's independently developed 256-channel implantable brain-computer interface system, WRS 01, leverages industry-leading ultra-flexible electrode technology to directly capture single-neuron signals, leading to a qualitative leap in controllability. Data shows that the information interaction efficiency between subjects and computers has reached 380 bits per minute, very close to the level of a normal person using their hands to control a computer. Additionally, the delay from signal acquisition to execution has been reduced to under 50 milliseconds, far below the normal human reaction time of 200 milliseconds, achieving a true "brain control comparable to hand control" effect, leading the industry.

Relying on this system, patients can work continuously for 3-4 hours while maintaining a stable and efficient control state. Furthermore, they possess multitasking capabilities: during work, they can simultaneously control the cursor and engage in conversation; while using a brain-controlled wheelchair, they can navigate precisely and talk at the same time.
