ByteDance Secures $29.6B Loan, Ranking as Asia's Second-Largest Dollar Deal This Year

ByteDance has reportedly secured a $29.6 billion loan, according to sources cited by media outlets, with the proceeds earmarked primarily for general corporate purposes. This marks the second-largest dollar-denominated loan in Asia this year, trailing only the $40 billion bridge loan that SoftBank Group signed in March.

The company initially sought $20 billion in financing, but ultimately increased the loan size with support from banks. The facility attracted over $30 billion in subscriptions, carries a three-year term with an initial interest rate of SOFR plus 68 basis points, and can be extended for up to five years.

ByteDance's capital expenditure is projected to reach as high as $70 billion this year—more than double last year's figure—as it expands data centers and other artificial intelligence infrastructure. Meanwhile, the company has been accelerating AI product launches and strategic adjustments in recent weeks.

On August 24, ByteDance completed the strategic integration of its AI office product lines. The TRAE and Coze teams will be fully merged into the Doubao ecosystem, with TRAE Work and Coze integrating their product capabilities into Doubao's workplace offerings, while TRAE IDE and CLI will continue to develop as programming product lines under the Doubao brand.

The following day, ByteDance unveiled Doubao Work, a new agent product and brand designed for productivity scenarios. Doubao Work can autonomously break down tasks, invoke tools, and drive complex workflows toward user goals. It is also deeply integrated with Feishu, enabling the agent to execute tasks more accurately using enterprise context.

Additionally, Ni Fei, President of ZTE's Terminal Business Unit and President of Nubia Technology, has previewed a next-generation Doubao-powered phone set for official release in September. Named the Nubia NaviX Ultra, it is positioned as the world's first flagship AI agent smartphone.
