In the eastern part of Jinling City, at the southern foot of Zhong Mountain, Metro Line 2 runs east-west along Zhongshan Gate Avenue, with three metro stations - Xiamaofang, Xiaolingwei, and Zhongling Street - serving as scenic area connection points lined up along the route. Traffic signal timing optimization has been implemented at intersections including Muxuyuan Avenue, Lingyuan Road, Bo'ai Road, Shenglicun Road, and Linggu Temple Road, complemented by variable lanes, mobile isolation facilities, and dynamic traffic police guidance.
During the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays, Nanjing's tourism popularity remained high with record-breaking visitor numbers. Zhongshan Scenic Area saw over 80% of reservations from outside the province, with peak daily visits reaching 368,500 people. The optimized traffic efficiency improvements showed significant results.
As the gateway hub for Zhongshan Scenic Area and a major commuting route for urban traffic and local residents, Zhongshan Gate Avenue maintained orderly vehicle flow with reduced congestion. The smoothness index for roads inside and outside the scenic area was significantly higher than during this year's May Day holiday and last year's National Day period, with traffic congestion incidents dropping substantially.
Traffic management authorities remind that October 9th marks the first working day after implementing the Zhongshan Scenic Area traffic optimization measures. Lingyuan Road and other routes will operate normally before 9:00 AM, after which traffic police will guide commuting vehicles to exit through correct routes. Normal traffic flow will resume after 5:00 PM.
Through coordinated efforts by multiple departments, Zhongshan Scenic Area strictly implemented "normal traffic before 8:30 AM and after 5:30 PM" measures during the National Day and Mid-Autumn holidays. Internal and external road traffic efficiency improved significantly, with data analysis showing substantial optimization in congestion within the scenic area and on Zhongshan Gate Avenue compared to this year's May Day and last year's National Day periods. Many visitors expressed their satisfaction with smooth travel through handwritten letters, phone messages, and online posts.
Meanwhile, Maqun Dafushing averaged 1,500 parked vehicles daily, and Huanling Road's Zhong'ai Li provided shuttle service for over 10,000 people per day. Visitors chose peripheral parking, public transportation, and scenic area shuttles, creating positive interaction that further enhanced traffic flow in the scenic area.
Traffic police remind that October 9th will be the first working day after official implementation of the optimization measures. For commuting and school pickup/drop-off requiring transit through the area, vehicles can normally enter Zhongshan Scenic Area roads before 9:00 AM. After 9:00 AM, traffic management will implement control measures while guiding vehicles to exit via correct routes. The Taipingmen Road-Botanical Garden Road-Mingling Road route and Huanling Road-Zijinshan East Road-Sports Institute South Road route remain accessible 24/7, with temporary dynamic controls applied when necessary. Based on experience analysis, the first day after holidays typically sees continued heavy traffic and slow movement on major cross-river passages and inner ring expressways citywide. Citizens are advised to plan routes in advance and allow extra travel time.
Additionally, Zhongshan Scenic Area will continue implementing regular management measures including parking reservations and peripheral shuttles. Vehicles entering Underwater World and Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum parking lots require advance reservations through the "Zhongshan Scenic Area" WeChat mini-program or official account one day prior. Private vehicles (excluding taxis and ride-hailing services) can make two reservations per month. Citizens and visitors are encouraged to choose public transportation or peripheral parking with transfers. Bus routes G31, 20, 34, and Metro Line 2 provide convenient access, while shared parking lots at Jinling STYLE, Maqun Dafushing, and Jinma Road all have public transport connections to the scenic area.
