Kans posted a statement on its official Weibo account today, pledging that none of its products contain human epidermal growth factor (EGF) ingredients.

The company stated that recent reports about its products "Kans Volumizing and Firming Essence Mask" and "Kans Brightening and Radiance Mask" containing EGF have caused concern among some consumers.

Following the reports, the company immediately launched a comprehensive self-inspection and traceability procedure. As early as November 2025, the Inspection Bureau of the Shanghai Municipal Medical Products Administration had conducted on-site verification and testing of the products, including dual-party testing based on objective fairness. The results showed that the submitted samples contained no EGF ingredients.

Previously, on December 25, CCTV's "Economic Half-Hour" program disclosed that a third-party testing agency had detected 0.07 pg/g of EGF in the "Kans Volumizing and Firming Essence Mask" and a significantly higher content of 3.21 pg/g in the "Kans Brightening and Radiance Mask." China's National Medical Products Administration had explicitly banned the use of EGF in cosmetics as early as 2019, citing that its large molecular size makes it difficult for healthy skin to absorb. If the skin barrier is compromised (e.g., by micro-wounds or allergies), EGF could potentially cause abnormal proliferation, facial stiffness, or even subcutaneous tissue thickening by up to 1 centimeter.

On December 26, Kans officially presented the dual-party test report from the Shanghai Medical Products Administration dated November 2025, stating that "EGF was not detected," and committed to resubmitting the involved products for testing. However, the report did not explain the discrepancy with the CCTV findings, only emphasizing that the "production formula is consistent with the filed version" and denying the use of an "A/B formula" (where the submitted formula differs from the actual production formula).

The involved masks have currently been removed from the official flagship store (which sells over ten million pieces annually). Official customer service responded that the removal might be due to being out of stock or the products being discontinued.
