China Ruifeng Renewable Energy Holdings Limited (00527) disclosed the latest developments of its grid-side independent energy storage power station projects. The company reported that Phase 1, with an installed capacity of 300 MW/1.2 GWh, commenced construction in September 2024 and connected to the grid at full capacity on January 22, 2025. According to the announcement, this phase is already involved in medium- to long-term electricity trading and performing in a market-based operation mode. It features a lithium iron phosphate battery system with four-hour duration, enhancing Hebei’s peak shaving and emergency backup capabilities.
On October 21, 2025, the Hebei Provincial Development and Reform Commission announced a list of pilot projects for independent storage with diverse technical routes. The 200 MW/0.8 GWh grid-forming hybrid energy storage power station project in Chabei Management Zone (Phase 2) was selected. Leveraging adjacent substations, dedicated transmission lines, and the existing Phase 1 infrastructure, Phase 2 aims to further improve power grid stability through grid-forming technology that provides inertia support and short-circuit capacity.
Phase 2 will integrate lithium iron phosphate and sodium ion battery technologies, balancing high energy density, safety, and performance across temperature ranges. It also adopts a prefabricated modular installation model for most of the construction, aiming to enhance efficiency and reduce project timelines. Upon completion, this phase is expected to enhance power system regulation, facilitate greater consumption of renewables in Zhangjiakou City, and bolster auxiliary services such as peak shaving and frequency regulation. According to the announcement, the project may garner multiple benefits from electricity trading and capacity-related services.
China Ruifeng Renewable Energy Holdings stated that Phase 2 is positioned to reinforce the northern Hebei power grid, supporting safety, stability, and more efficient integration of renewable energy, while providing a practical reference for diversified technological development in new-type energy storage nationwide.
