美国总统特朗普周三再次批评美联储主席鲍威尔，就在美联储公布利率决定的几个小时前。特朗普表示，美国已从关税中收取了880亿美元，并且“没有通胀”，再次呼吁降低利率。
他说：“如果美联储降息，我们会以更低的价格购买美债。不过，坦率地讲，我们在美联储有一个愚蠢的人，他今天可能不会降息。他做得很糟糕。我们应该降息200个基点，如果能降息250个基点就更好了。我打算先采取短期策略，将利率大幅降低，然后再转而采取长期策略。”
鲍威尔在特朗普首个总统任期内被提名为美联储主席，2018年2月正式上任，2022年5月在前总统拜登执政期间连任，任期至2026年5月。
特朗普今年以来多次批评鲍威尔并威胁解除他的美联储主席职务。鲍威尔表示，特朗普作为总统没有解除其职务的合法权限，他将工作至任期结束。
