Inside the production facilities of Weichai Holding Group Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Weichai Group"), engines are methodically completing machining, assembly, testing, and packaging processes under the precise direction of an intelligent production line. According to on-site operators, a single diesel engine travels through 128 distinct steps from the moment its block enters the line until it rolls off as a finished product, with an average output rate of one engine every 85 seconds. Having specialized in its core power business for eight decades, Weichai, operating as a high-end equipment multinational, is using this manufacturing velocity to craft a "Weichai answer" for the transformation and upgrading of China's equipment manufacturing sector. In the first half of 2026, Weichai Group achieved total operating revenue surpassing RMB 200 billion, marking a 22% year-on-year increase, with particularly impressive growth recorded in strategic sectors such as electric power and new energy. Behind this performance lies a clearly defined strategic transformation blueprint. "In recent years, Weichai has anchored its long-term trajectory with green development, reshaped its production logic with digital intelligence, broadened its development landscape through internationalization, and unlocked value space via ecosystem building. The synchronized drive of these four pillars has carved out a high-quality transformation path," explained Li Zhijie, General Assistant to the President and Director of the Strategic Planning Department at Weichai Power.
Within this four-pillar coordinated strategy, green development serves as the cornerstone anchoring Weichai Group's long-term direction. "At present, while concentrating on its core business, Weichai Group is constructing a diversified powertrain roadmap to drive new growth curves." The company continues to set world records for the thermal efficiency of diesel engine bodies within its traditional powertrain segment. Since launching the world's first diesel engine with a body thermal efficiency of 50.23% in 2020, Weichai Group has achieved four successive leaps over four years, raising thermal efficiency to 51.09%, 52.28%, and 53.09%, guiding China's internal combustion engine industry toward global prominence. Early this year, the company's high-efficiency engine series was honored with the "Green Design International Award" from the World Green Design Organization (WGDO); in July, its "Key Technologies and Applications of High-Performance Diesel Engines" project received a second prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Awards.
While securing its traditional core business, Weichai Group is also making forward-looking investments in low-carbon and zero-carbon fuel internal combustion engine technologies, encompassing fuel types such as methanol, hydrogen, and biomethane, continuously accelerating the technological iteration and product upgrades of green, low-carbon fuel engines. On the new energy front, Weichai Group has established a comprehensive technology matrix and product portfolio covering pure electric, hybrid, and fuel cell solutions. Building on over a decade of technological accumulation, Weichai Group has completed the development of a new generation of three-electric products across all series and application domains, forming a complete industry chain spanning power batteries, electric motors, and electronic controls. Regarding fuel cells, Weichai Group is pursuing two technological routes: solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) and hydrogen fuel cells. Presently, the Weichai Power SOFC power generation system has successfully obtained EU CE certification, achieving a maximum power generation efficiency exceeding 65% with performance indicators reaching internationally leading levels. Furthermore, leveraging the national innovation platform of the Fuel Cell National Technology Innovation Center, Weichai Group firmly grasps core hydrogen fuel cell technologies, serving the hydrogen industry and driving the refinement and expansion of the supply chain.
If green development addresses the question of "what kind of power to build," then digital intelligence answers "how to build it better." Weichai Group treats digital intelligence as a "top priority" project, deeply integrating artificial intelligence with its lean management system to develop a distinctive digitally-intelligent lean model, pushing manufacturing toward "zero defects." Weichai Group states that it has assembled a professional digital intelligence team of several thousand members, with AI coverage approaching 80% across business scenarios. Additionally, the company is merging technologies such as AI and digital twins to construct a fully digitized, interconnected system spanning "R&D, manufacturing, operations, and sales services." "Last November, Weichai's 'High-End Engine Intelligent Factory Based on a Digitally-Intelligent Lean Model' project was selected for the inaugural list of leading-level intelligent factory cultivation, establishing itself as a benchmark for intelligent transformation in China's equipment manufacturing industry," noted a representative from Weichai Group.
While strengthening its internal capabilities, Weichai Group is also enhancing its international competitiveness, continuously expanding global growth opportunities. As an equipment manufacturing multinational with significant global influence, Weichai Group has cultivated overseas markets for many years, owning 29 domestic and international brands and having completed acquisitions of over a dozen overseas high-end equipment enterprises. This approach has enabled the company to defy the "seventy-seven law" of cross-border M&A, achieving stable and integrated development. A Weichai Group representative commented: "Weichai's overseas expansion is not about simply selling products; it involves a systematic layout of 'precise chain supplementation, local deep cultivation, and ecosystem synergy.'" This strategy has delivered notable results in overseas markets. In the first half of this year, Weichai Group launched a new series of B100 biofuel products and completed Singapore's first 1,000-hour sea trial using B100 fuel on an actual vessel. Additionally, Yaxing Coach has achieved batch exports to Southeast Asia, with multiple new energy models securing EU WVTA certification and gaining entry into the European high-end market. Furthermore, 4,950 buses equipped with Weichai engines were delivered to Algeria, setting a new local record for batch orders. Notably, within the electric power business domain, Weichai Group continues to seize opportunities from the global surge in computing infrastructure, achieving new breakthroughs across Southeast Asia, Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East, with data center products being delivered in volume. With full-series, full-domain products selling globally, a robust service network and industry chain ecosystem are being implemented in tandem.
Facing end customers, Weichai Group has established the W-TCO total cost of ownership management system to provide full-process service. Moreover, leveraging its global network of over 8,000 service outlets and more than 80 regional centers, Weichai Group has built a 7x24-hour response network that, combined with data platforms, delivers predictive maintenance for over 3 million power equipment units in service worldwide. Simultaneously, Weichai Group actively plays its role as an industry chain "leader," exporting mature management and digital systems to drive the transformation and upgrading of nearly a thousand upstream and downstream enterprises, jointly tackling core technologies to fortify a self-reliant and secure industrial foundation. As the opening year of the "15th Five-Year Plan" approaches, Weichai Group states that it will leverage globally leading technologies as an engine, with green, global, digital, and ecosystem transformations as key breakthroughs, steadily advancing toward the high end of the global equipment manufacturing value chain to inject stronger momentum into building a manufacturing powerhouse.
