The CSOP SK Hynix Daily (2x) Leveraged Product experienced a sharp intraday decline of 9.75% on Thursday.
The drop follows a Goldman Sachs warning about a potential "chaotic unwinding" in the global leveraged single-stock ETF market, which has surpassed USD 60 billion in scale. Analysts noted semiconductor and technology stocks were at elevated levels of crowdedness and valuation, signaling accumulating investment risks. Concurrently, some funds were forced to sell holdings due to single-stock position cap regulations, and foreign investors have been net sellers of Korean equities.
The product's 2x daily rebalancing mechanism multiplies losses when the underlying stock retreats, contributing to significantly higher short-term volatility. The decline occurred after the product's year-to-date gain had approached 800%, with its assets under management swelling to over HKD 80 billion.
