The cycle of seasons brings renewed splendor to Tianjin. From the vibrant floral displays at the Peach Blossom Embankment in spring to the dazzling lights of the Hai River night cruises in summer, from the golden ginkgo leaves of Wudadao in autumn to the rich festive traditions of Yangliuqing Ancient Town in winter, the city's seasonal snapshots pulse with the dynamic rhythm of urban development. Behind these scenes of vitality, State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company provides a continuous stream of power for the city's high-quality development through its clean, reliable energy supply and refined, efficient service guarantees. Anchored in the broader context of urban development and steering towards the goal of high-quality growth, State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company prioritizes people's livelihoods, builds upon a robust grid foundation, and focuses on superior service. It actively implements the new energy security strategy of "Four Revolutions, One Cooperation," deeply integrating its efforts with Tianjin's "Ten Actions" for high-quality development. Through a series of precise measures—from optimizing the grid layout and promoting green energy to upgrading service models and deepening government-enterprise collaboration—it transforms surging electrical currents into a powerful engine driving the city forward. Strengthening the Foundation for Development In 2025, State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company commenced 54 grid infrastructure projects at 35 kV and above, and put into operation 49 power transmission and transformation projects, including the expansion of the Tianjin South 1000 kV substation. These efforts continuously promote the coordinated development of the grid at all levels, making the city's power network framework clearer and more resilient. As the year draws to a close with biting cold winds sweeping through the streets, pedestrians hurry along bundled in heavy coats. Meanwhile, the construction site of the Tianjin North 1000 kV Ultra-High Voltage (UHV) substation presents a scene of intense activity. Beneath the silently towering silver-white structures, workers are diligently engaged in tasks like rebar tying and concrete pouring. On March 18, 2025, a joint groundbreaking meeting was held in Shanxi, Hebei, and Tianjin for the State Grid Corporation's Datong-Huailai-Tianjin South 1000 kV UHV AC power transmission and transformation project. Once completed during the '16th Five-Year Plan' period, this energy "artery," connecting the energy bases of Shanxi and Hebei with the load center of Tianjin, will boost the UHV transmission capacity in the North China region to 21,000 MW, facilitating the integration of over 14.6 billion kWh of new energy annually. Recently, construction at the Tianjin North 1000 kV UHV substation site, a crucial component of this project, has been progressing with civil works such as the main transformer foundation. The station's key structures and equipment are designed with seismic measures for a magnitude 9 intensity, ranking it among the domestic substations with the highest seismic resistance. According to Liu Honghe, the project execution manager, the Datong-Tianjin South UHV AC project is the nation's first UHV AC project to fully utilize indoor gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) plants along its entire route, enhancing equipment reliability while saving land. Concurrently, the Tianjin North UHV substation project is also the first to extensively apply low-noise reactors, reducing noise impact. Furthermore, the project employs multiple green construction technologies, such as eco-friendly cement and in-situ silt solidification, throughout its entire lifecycle. "We are aiming for the highest industry standards," Liu Honghe stated. The project plans to incorporate numerous advanced achievements, including 9 national key energy-saving and low-carbon technologies and 28 "Five New" power construction technologies, striving wholeheartedly to win the National Quality Engineering Gold Award. In 2025, supporting economic development, State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company put the supporting grid projects for the SCO Tianjin Summit into operation ahead of schedule, ensuring timely power supply for 14 user projects, including those for Guanghuan Xinwang and China Unicom. Promoting green development, it commissioned the Jinnan 500 kV transmission and transformation project and built supporting grid infrastructure for green electricity. Serving public welfare projects, it completed the relocation of 68 power lines at 35 kV and above, such as the 220 kV Gemeng I & II lines for the Jinwei High-Speed Railway and the 500 kV Jiangbin I & II lines for Metro Line Z4. During the relocation project for the Binzhong and Binxing 220 kV lines in Section 6 of the Jingjin High-Speed Railway, project leader Sun Xu led his team in a race against time. Confronted with a complex environment involving crossings over railways, roads, rivers, and multiple live power lines, the team innovatively adopted a "phased implementation and staggered peak operation" construction method. They worked continuously through over ten nighttime "maintenance windows" during the hottest summer days. Through meticulous scheduling, the team managed to parallelize multiple previously interdependent work phases, clearing critical obstacles for the main high-speed rail project. "2025 was a historical peak for relocation projects, featuring the highest number of projects, complex construction plans, and variable on-site conditions. Every breakthrough at key nodes and every successful power-on embodies the hard work of grid construction workers," said Li Yubo, Head of the Project Management Office at the Construction Department of State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company. Service Upgrades Empowering Industry and Livelihoods In 2025, State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company proactively engaged with departments like the Municipal Development and Reform Commission and the Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology. By deeply implementing the "Project Leader" responsibility system, it successfully powered up 153 municipal-level projects, including those for Tianjin University and Zhongjin Data. Adopting a tailored, one-enterprise-one-plan approach, the company achieved a record-high annual connected capacity of 7.936 million kVA. Enterprise projects vary widely, and so do their electricity needs. The "Project Leaders" leveraged their professional expertise to provide customized solutions. Some established early contact mechanisms with industrial parks, calmly planning solutions before projects even broke ground. Others helped connect enterprises with government departments to coordinate resources and foster cooperation. Some streamlined processes and enhanced services based on project specifics, while others led internal cross-functional teams to overcome technical challenges. Many "Project Leaders" even turned enterprises into repeat customers for capacity expansion, consistently solving problems with their specialized, refined, tailored, and innovative services. Not long ago, Beijing Andawell Co., Ltd., which produces aviation equipment, required power supply in the Airport Economic Development Zone. As the company is based in Beijing, handling business remotely was inconvenient. The "Project Leader" from State Grid Tianjin Dongli Company initiated a highly representative "Cloud Power Handling" service model. The enterprise applied remotely across regions, conducted site surveys via video, signed power supply contracts electronically, and underwent real-time online inspections upon completion—all without needing to make a single trip. This made project implementation and commissioning both convenient and highly efficient. "Power Awaits Projects" is far from an empty promise. Through tangible measures like the "Project Leader" system, "One-Click Service," and "Cross-Regional Handling," State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company has honed genuine capabilities that benefit enterprises. On the path of economic development, the power company and its enterprise clients work together to solve common challenges, moving forward hand in hand, creating a virtuous cycle where "robust power support benefits enterprises, thriving enterprises boost the economy, and a strong economy, in turn, fosters better power development." In 2025, the SCO Tianjin Summit was successfully held, backed by a robust supply of green power. The dazzling lights and beautiful nightscapes showcased Tianjin's charm to the world. The captivating scenery attracted numerous distinguished guests. Statistics show that during the New Year's Day period this year, Tianjin welcomed approximately 9.06 million visitors, ranking first nationally, with a significant number opting for the green travel method of driving new energy vehicles. "Tianjin offers great 'food,' fantastic 'fun,' and a truly excellent experience. The convenience of 'travel' is particularly impressive," said Ms. Ren Yan from Beijing, who visited Tianjin with her family of four in their NEV. "We went shopping in Wuqing, then skiing in Jizhou, and drove around the city afterward. We could charge the car anytime along the way, saving a considerable amount on tolls." Throughout the year, State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company diligently implemented the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee and Government's "Three News, Three Quantities" work deployment, strengthening infrastructure development to aid urban renewal. It newly built and put into operation nearly a thousand charging piles of various types and completed wide-voltage constant-power upgrades for over 60 charging stations and more than 700 older charging piles. The output power of charging piles increased by over 25%, and the new lightweight charging gun cables, which are half the weight, are easier to handle. These improvements perfectly cater to mainstream NEV models used by families for travel, significantly reducing charging wait times and achieving an efficient energy replenishment experience akin to "charge for half an hour, drive to Beijing." Tourists can now bid farewell to "range anxiety" and enjoy a safer, more comfortable charging experience. Green Transformation Ignites New Momentum for Growth In the summer of 2025, as lights began to twinkle along both banks of the Hai River in Tianjin, the sun still lingered over the Xinjiang Gobi desert, bathing countless photovoltaic panels in ample sunlight as they generated power at full tilt. The fading twilight of the Northwest was converted into electricity, embarking on a "green long march" across mountains and rivers via the UHV grid. At that moment, over two thousand kilometers away, Tianjin was experiencing its evening electricity peak. The power supply window created by the time zone difference presented a key opportunity for State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company to achieve cross-regional green power supply. This year, Tianjin's green electricity transaction volume surged by 143% year-on-year. In 2025, two major international events held in Tianjin—the SCO Summit and the Summer Davos Forum—achieved 100% clean energy power supply for their venues. "Our venue was designed and built from the outset with green principles in mind—maximizing renewable energy use, reducing carbon emissions, and controlling energy costs—which fully aligns with our original intention and long-term goals. Achieving 100% green power supply for both international events can attract more influential, high-end exhibitions and conferences within the industry to choose our location, indirectly bringing us brand premium and showcasing Tianjin's core competitiveness in hosting international gatherings," said Li Honglei, Head of the Energy Department at the National Convention and Exhibition Center (Tianjin). The powerful growth engine stems from enterprises' increasingly urgent need for green development. In 2023, Danfoss China signed its first ten-year green power purchase agreement, a pioneering move domestically at the time. Zhang Fan, responsible for electricity sales and demand-side management at State Grid Tianjin Comprehensive Energy Service Company, who worked on the project, recalls it vividly: "Facing Danfoss's demand for a ten-year contract, we innovatively designed the 'Tianjin Formula' based on market average prices. This both met the company's need to lock in long-term costs and hedged against electricity price volatility." The successful conclusion of the deal triggered a surge in market demand. Over the following years, this mechanism innovation was replicated at Danfoss's factories in Zhejiang and Jiangsu, creating a "ripple effect" in the green supply chain. Zhang Fan observed that beyond foreign-invested and export-oriented companies purchasing green power due to client requirements or tariff pressures, local enterprises are also shifting from pure cost considerations towards Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategic investments, making market demand increasingly diverse. Cheng Hui, Deputy General Manager of Tianjin Bohua Carbon Asset Management Co., Ltd., stated, "As a large state-owned enterprise, our group faces triple pressures from carbon assessments, supply chain responsibilities, and international market barriers. Purchasing green power has become key to maintaining competitiveness." This year, the Bohua Chemical Group's annual electricity transaction volume reached 4.45 billion kWh, of which 2.434 billion kWh was procured as green power through medium- and long-term transactions. Yu Hongliang, Head of Public Auxiliary Facilities at Tianjin Guoneng Mengguli New Material Technology Co., Ltd., witnessed the company's substantial move into green power trading firsthand. In 2023, Mengguli allocated 10 million kWh of green power within its annual transaction volume. In 2024, it further purchased 52.75 million kWh, and by 2025, its green power transaction volume soared to 128 million kWh. The use of green power resulted in a 63.9% year-on-year reduction in the company's carbon emissions in 2025. Yu Hongliang commented, "As a private enterprise in the new era, green power procurement enhances our carbon reduction image in the eyes of clients. It's a significant 'plus point' for consolidating and expanding our market advantage." As winter gives way to spring, lights herald the new year. The year 2026 marks the beginning of the "16th Five-Year Plan" period. State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company will persistently transform the central government's directives and the people's expectations into its corporate pursuits. Centered closely on the strategic deployments of the State Grid Party Leadership Group and the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee and Government, it will fully dedicate itself to serving the construction of a pioneering city for the energy revolution, resolutely shouldering the mission and responsibility of a "national pillar," and contributing even greater strength to the building of a modern socialist metropolis in Tianjin.
