Eoptolink's Strong Growth Masks Cash Flow and Governance Red Flags

Eoptolink Technology Inc.,Ltd. presents a picture of booming sales and rising prices, yet beneath this vibrant surface lie concerning cash flow pressure and corporate governance issues. While the company's first-half results showed explosive growth, the quality of its earnings appears compromised, with a net cash to net profit ratio of only 0.21. Notably, the company's inventory surged to 11.6 billion yuan this year (up 96% year-over-year), raising the question of whether this reflects upstream supply constraints. Additionally, the slow progress of its Hong Kong listing may be linked to its actual controller's past integrity issues, including illegal share reductions and information disclosure violations.

The company's performance in the first half of this year was explosive. Revenue reached 20.91 billion yuan, a year-over-year increase of 100.34%, while net profit attributable to shareholders hit 7.529 billion yuan, up 90.98%. The gross margin for the first half stood at 48.44%, an increase of 1.01 percentage points year-over-year. On a quarterly basis, Q2 revenue was 12.572 billion yuan, up 96.9% year-over-year and 50.78% quarter-over-quarter, with net profit attributable to shareholders reaching 4.749 billion yuan, up 100.4% year-over-year and 70.81% quarter-over-quarter.

The optical module business experienced a significant "simultaneous increase in volume and price, with robust production and sales." Revenue from optical interconnect products exceeded 20.8 billion yuan in the first half, up over 100% year-over-year, with overall gross margin up 0.99%. According to the company's semi-annual report, production of optical interconnect products reached 10.91 million units, up 53.66% from 7.1 million units in the same period last year, while sales hit 11.19 million units, up 61.01% from 6.95 million units. Sales growth outpaced production growth by approximately 7.35 percentage points, indicating faster inventory turnover and smooth order fulfillment, driven by strong downstream AI computing power demand. The production-to-sales ratio improved from 97.89% to 102.57%, suggesting the company is not only absorbing current output but also reducing previous inventory, entering a positive supply chain cycle.

The company attributes the increase in production, sales, and gross margin to increased market demand, expanded capacity, and improved product mix. The high prosperity of the optical module sector is fueled by massive demand for high-speed optical modules from hyperscale AI computing clusters and the accelerated global investment in AI infrastructure. With the rapid development of generative AI models like ChatGPT, Doubao, Tongyi Qianwen, and DeepSeek, model parameters are breaking through trillion or even ten-trillion levels, driving explosive AI computing demand. North American cloud giants maintain high-intensity AI capital expenditure in 2026. According to ICC Xinshi Industry Research Institute's May 2026 report, AI infrastructure has become the core long-term strategic priority for overseas cloud vendors, with the combined capex budget median for Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Oracle exceeding $740 billion in 2026, focusing on high-performance GPU clusters, custom ASICs, and next-generation high-density data centers. LightCounting's June 2026 Market Forecast Report has again raised its sales forecast for Ethernet optical modules used in AI computing clusters, with the market expected to reach $80 billion by 2031.

Eoptolink Technology Inc.,Ltd. stated in investment communications that order delivery demand is growing, with H2 deliveries expected to remain in rapid growth phase. Industry prosperity remains high, with strong order visibility for Q3, Q4, and next year. 800G shipments increased this year and have become the main product. 1.6T optical module shipments grew significantly in Q2 compared to Q1, with further acceleration expected from Q3/Q4 onwards. The company's equity incentive plan also reflects high growth expectations. On August 21, the company announced its 2026 restricted stock incentive plan. Based on the performance assessment indicators, the minimum revenue targets for 2026-2028 can be deduced: 2026 revenue of no less than 50 billion yuan, 2027 revenue of no less than 90 billion yuan (implying 80% year-over-year growth), and 2028 revenue of 150 billion yuan (implying 66.67% year-over-year growth). This translates to a compound annual growth rate of approximately 73.2% from the 2026 base year.

Despite explosive revenue growth, earnings quality hasn't kept pace. The company's net cash to net profit ratio was only 0.21 in the first half, according to the eagle-eye early warning system. Generally, a higher match between operating cash flow and net profit indicates better earnings quality. Why has earnings quality declined despite industry prosperity? The company's inventory has surged alongside expansion, reaching 11.6 billion yuan in the first half, up 96% year-over-year. The company explains that the increase is due to significant revenue growth and proactive stockpiling to secure orders. In fact, the substantial capital tied up in inventory may stem from tight upstream supply, forcing the company to lock in materials in advance. Since H2 2025, core optical module materials have been in short supply, including indium phosphide substrates, EML chips, DSP chips, Faraday rotators, and silicon lenses. The company noted that Q1 supply chain tightness affected deliveries, easing from Q2 onwards and stabilizing in Q3/Q4, thanks to advance preparation and locking of core raw materials.

The three major optical module leaders show a clear pace difference in Hong Kong listings: Zhongji Innolight took the lead, Tianfu Communication has filed its application, while Eoptolink Technology Inc.,Ltd. remains in the planning stage. Zhongji Innolight initiated its H-share preparations in November 2025, filed with the HKEX on January 30, 2026, received CSRC filing approval on July 8, passed the listing hearing on July 16, and listed on July 30, 2026 (Stock Code: 03308.HK) at HK$980 per share. Tianfu Communication followed, with its board approving the H-share issuance on March 16, 2026, and filing with the HKEX on April 10, 2026. Eoptolink Technology Inc.,Ltd. started the latest, with its board approving the H-share plan on June 10, 2026.

The delayed Hong Kong listing may be connected to the actual controller's previous regulatory violations. The company's controlling shareholder, actual controller, and chairman, Gao Guangrong, received a case filing notice from the CSRC on December 20, 2024, for suspected illegal share transfers. On February 17, he received an administrative penalty decision for two violations: transferring shares in violation of restrictions and illegal information disclosure. The total penalty amounted to approximately 31.5 million yuan. Specifically, from March 15 to April 11, 2023, Gao transferred 1.42% of the company's total shares through certain accounts, with 0.42% being in violation of restrictions, yielding illegal gains of 9.4986 million yuan. Additionally, he failed to truthfully report his shareholding through the family trust account, leading to false statements in the company's 2020, 2021, and 2022 annual reports. These violations touch on two red lines: restricted share transfers (dishonest reduction) and information disclosure violations. According to HKEX Listing Rules, director or controlling shareholder involvement in fraud, deception, or dishonest conduct could affect listing suitability. Industry insiders suggest that while Gao's violations are securities administrative penalties and may not fall under the most severe category of "integrity violations" under HKEX rules, they may increase the costs of due diligence, remediation disclosure, and pre-communication during the suitability review. As of now, the Hong Kong listing remains in the planning stage, with no public prospectus yet.
