Shares of ING Groep NV surged 6.12% in intraday trading on Thursday, as investors cheered the Dutch lender's robust second-quarter financial results and an upgraded guidance.

The bank reported earnings per share of $0.79, surpassing the analyst consensus estimate of $0.74, while total sales of $7.305 billion also exceeded the expected $7.120 billion. Net profit before tax rose 23% year-on-year, driven by accelerated growth in its customer base, with mobile primary customers up by 377,000, and significant increases in net core lending and deposit inflows.

ING also raised its outlook for 2026 and 2027, now expecting total income to surpass previous targets and return on tangible equity to exceed 15% and 16% respectively. RBC Capital Markets noted that the upgraded guidance and good cost control should lead to consensus upgrades, with the new outlook based on potentially conservative interest-rate assumptions.
