Alibaba Group CEO Yongming Wu has issued an internal letter announcing organizational changes focused on artificial intelligence. The adjustments include the creation of a new Group Technology Committee and the upgrade of the Tongyi large model division to speed up AI development.
According to the internal letter, Alibaba has established a technology committee at the group level, with Yongming Wu serving as chair. Committee members include Jingren Zhou, Zeming Wu, and Feifei Li. Jingren Zhou will act as the committee's chief AI architect, Feifei Li will oversee Alibaba Cloud technology and AI cloud infrastructure development, and Zeming Wu will be responsible for the group's business technology platform and AI inference platform construction.
To accelerate overall AI development, Alibaba has also elevated the Tongyi Lab to the Tongyi Large Model Division, which will be led by Jingren Zhou. Feifei Li will take on the role of Alibaba Cloud CTO, while Zeming Wu will focus on his duties as Alibaba Group CTO. Yanqun Lei will succeed Zeming Wu as CEO of Taobao's flash sales business.
The year 2026 is considered a critical period for Alibaba's accelerated AI advancement. Recent moves in the AI space include the formation of the ATH business group, centered on "creating tokens, delivering tokens, and applying tokens," and the latest model Qwen 3.6 Plus ranking first in weekly usage on OpenRouter's global large model leaderboard. These organizational changes signal the consolidation of key talent and resources to focus on strategic priorities, indicating that Alibaba has entered a phase of comprehensive AI acceleration.
