Wedbush Backs Cerebras Systems as It Prepares to Report First Quarterly Results Since IPO

AI chip manufacturer Cerebras Systems (CBRS.US) is set to release its first-quarter financial results on June 23, Eastern Time. Investment bank Wedbush has reaffirmed its "Outperform" rating on the company, maintaining a $270 price target. The firm expressed that it anticipates any inflection point in the company's performance to be viewed positively.

Analysts at Wedbush, led by Matt Bryson, noted that only a few weeks have passed since Cerebras Systems completed its initial public offering and the bank initiated coverage. Consequently, they do not have fresh insights ahead of this inaugural earnings report. However, they reminded investors that, given the company's collaborative agreements with OpenAI and Amazon, they see minimal demand risk. Instead, the company's performance relative to expectations is likely to hinge entirely on its own execution capabilities.

Cerebras Systems is a company that designs AI chips and develops AI infrastructure, often seen as a potential competitor to AI giant NVIDIA (NVDA.US). The company went public on the Nasdaq in May, raising approximately $5.55 billion. Its flagship technology includes the Wafer-Scale Engine 3 (WSE-3) chip, which the company claims is the world's fastest commercially available AI processor.

Key Factors for Optimism

The analysts highlighted several reasons for optimism. They identified production capacity at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSM.US) as the primary current bottleneck for Cerebras Systems. In their view, TSMC is likely to provide higher-than-expected wafer output for Cerebras in 2026 and 2027. Therefore, the analysts believe Cerebras's wafer and system shipments could surpass market expectations.

Bryson and his team stated, "With AI accelerator supply tightening and memory procurement becoming more difficult—a factor that impacts Cerebras less due to its chip's reliance on SRAM rather than HBM—we believe there are multiple reasons to think Cerebras could see financial upside from any additional capacity."

Potential for Future Product Upgrades

Furthermore, the analysts noted that Cerebras Systems has not formally disclosed a timeline for the launch of WSE-4, and Wedbush's current forecast models do not yet account for potential benefits from this product upgrade. However, there is widespread market speculation that WSE-4 will launch and enter volume production in late 2026 or early 2027. The analysts believe that performance improvements from a new generation design should positively impact Cerebras's financials, including margins and revenue growth. Thus, they view any updates on the company's execution progress or planning in this area as potentially favorable.

Management's Guidance and Long-Term Outlook

Bryson and his analyst team also suggested that Cerebras Systems management has likely built some conservatism into its guidance—a common practice for IPO companies and strong management teams to navigate potential challenges. This implies that even if the company merely meets its own plans, it could deliver results that exceed external expectations.

Analysts concluded, "Fundamentally, however, Cerebras's success is not predicated on short-term earnings beats, but on its ability to build a meaningful market share within the rapidly expanding AI accelerator market. On this front, we believe any new data point is more likely to be favorable for Cerebras, due to: 1) persistently strong demand and an increasing market focus on performance tokens; 2) potential or likely capacity upside from TSMC, which Cerebras could leverage to serve more customers; and 3) intensifying supply and pricing bottlenecks related to memory, which in the medium term should only serve to enhance Cerebras's competitive advantage and market penetration."
