South Korean stocks surged so much that a circuit breaker was triggered.

On October 27, the South Korean stock market opened higher and then climbed in a volatile manner, with the KOSPI index rising more than 4% to 5,702.91 points.

Because KOSPI 200 index futures rose 5%, the Korea Exchange activated the SIDECAR mechanism, suspending programmatic buying of KOSPI.

Among heavyweight stocks, Samsung Electronics rose more than 4%, SK Hynix gained more than 6%, and SK SQUARE and Samsung Electro-Mechanics each advanced more than 8%.

An official from the Bank of Korea said that third-quarter GDP data led to an upward revision of 0.35 percentage points in South Korea's economic growth forecast for this year; private consumption will gradually recover from the fourth quarter of 2026 to the first quarter of 2027.
